The fan's forum were approached by Bev Mayer our Club SLO regarding an invitation she had received for the club's fans to become involved with Fan's Supporting Foodbanks.
Colin MacKay and Danny Williams were appointed as Joint Coordinators on behalf of the fans forum to investigate this item and report to the forum steering group.
With the co-operation of St Johnstone Football Club's directors and SLO; Saints in the Community Trust (SITC); Betty Shipp at the club shop and the work of both Colin and Danny the Saints Fans Supporting Foodbanks was created.
The Foodbank collections started in April 2023 with members of the fans forum steering group accepting donations from Saints and away fans. The items donated are packaged up and stored for collection by Perth & Kinross Foodbank who disperse them to those in need. There is also a cash collection which goes to SITC for their food related projects. The collections are done by volunteers at every home match and it is pleasing to note that some fans who are not on the steering group have kindly donated their time and changed their match day habits to help out.
The collection point is at the Ormond Stand near the club shop and usually we are using the Saints in The Community gazebo. Look out for us there and come and say hello. If you cannot make it on match day's Betty in the club shop will accept donations during shop opening times.
The response has been beyond expectations and that is due to the thoughtfulness and kindness of all fans attending matches at McDiarmid Park who realise that "Hunger does not wear club colours".
